Academy Model Exploration
Every Hopkins scholar should graduate knowing who they are, what they’re good at, and where they want to go next.

Hopkins wants to increase its value proposition and prepare ALL students for post-secondary success. Thus, Hopkins is exploring a career academy model with Ford Next Generation Learning (Ford NGL) as their guide. Career-connected learning is a powerful way to enrich student opportunity and ensure it aligns with real-world experiences. This approach is designed to ensure graduates leave not only ready for college, but with tangible career experiences and industry-recognized credentials that create real-world value.
About Ford NGL
Ford Next Generation Learning is a nonprofit initiative of the Henry Ford Learning Institute, originally incubated by Ford Philanthropy, but now independent. Their mission is to mobilize educators, employers, and community leaders to prepare students for college, careers, and life by connecting learning to real-world applications. Project status
Phase 2: Envision
The district is in the early stages, exploring the possibilities. The Ford NGL process has five stages and we are currently in Phase 2: Envision. This phase helps us study what a Hopkins-designed academy model could look like should our community ultimately decide to move forward with Phase 3: Plan.

Phase 1: Explore
Completed Spring 2025
In April 2025, a Ford NGL coaching team visited the district to review current programs, leadership structures, resources, and community partnerships, and to assess the district’s strengths, challenges, and overall readiness for this work. This report summarizes their findings and recommendations.

There are two deliverables we expect if we partner with Ford NGL to pursue an academy model:

Freshman Academy that serves as a guided seminar to help students transition smoothly into high school life, covering topics like goal setting, academic organization, digital citizenship, and social-emotional learning.

Career-themed learning model that groups students into academies or pathways tied to real-world industries (e.g. engineering, health, business, information technology, arts, communication). A series of career pathways determined by Hopkins High School staff, students, community and the larger Hopkins Public Schools district.
