About Principal Emily Palmer

Dr. Emily Palmer comes to Hopkins with 13 years of experience as a secondary principal in Minneapolis. She served 8 years at Washburn High Sschool and 5 years serving at Sanford Middle School. She began her career as a classroom teacher in Minneapolis, teaching English at the middle school and high school levels for more than 10 years before moving into school leadership. 

"The Hopkins district has embraced the promise of high academic expectations for all students with meaningful racial equity in a way that few other districts have," said Dr. Palmer. "I appreciate that commitment and am excited to do the work."

Dr. Palmer is a 4th-generation University of Minnesota Gopher. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English, a Master of Education in Secondary Curriculum and Instruction and a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Policy and Leadership. She currently teaches at the University of Minnesota as an adjunct instructor for the urban principals cohort as well.

A life-long Twin Cities area resident, Dr. Palmer has two adult daughters, one who is a 1st grade teacher in St. Paul, and one who is a Hopkins High School graduate and 5th generation Gopher at Univeristy of Minnesota-Twin Cities.
