Senior Spotlight: Shiya Murphy

Senior Spotlight: Shiya Murphy

As graduation approaches, we’re celebrating members of the Class of 2026 and the journeys that have shaped their futures.

For Shiya Murphy, an AP Environmental Science class with Mr. Sammler helped spark his interest in sustainability and the ways different fields can contribute to environmental solutions. That curiosity expanded through his involvement in DECA, where he competed in Business Law and Ethics and advanced to state, and through leadership in Philosophy Club, where he helped grow the group and lead conversations centered on big questions about influence, impact, and community. He also served as a service officer in National Honor Society, helping organize opportunities that give back to the community.

Shiya also credits his other teachers for shaping his path, especially Ms. Heimlich. Through classes like AP African American Studies and AP World History, he deepened his understanding of history, culture, and the lasting impact those stories have on communities today.

After graduation, Shiya will attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to study environmental studies and economics, with plans to combine his interests to create solutions that support stronger, more sustainable communities. Congratulations, Shiya!
